ESRI and AirZip Partner to Speed Delivery of GIS Data by up to 800 Percent

Established Industry Incorporates Premier Image Management Software for More Robust Web-based GIS Applications and Wireless Location-based Services

SAN JOSE, Calif. and REDLANDS, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- AirZip(TM) Inc., the leader in software for securing and speeding networked information, and ESRI, the world's market share leader in geographic information systems (GIS) software, announced an agreement in which ESRI and its partners will resell AirZip Accelerator software as a key component of ESRI's family of GIS solutions, including the flagship ArcGIS and ArcIMS products.

ESRI, which distributes mapping and GIS data and services on the Web and wirelessly, selected AirZip Accelerator to enable rich media commonly used in GIS applications -- maps, graphics and other images -- to be delivered up to 800 percent faster than standard delivery solutions via AirZip's patent-pending compression technology. AirZip was also chosen because it provides customizable, plug-and-play acceleration across all devices and networks using existing network infrastructure and standards in the most cost-effective, reliable and scalable manner possible. The agreement adds to a previous arrangement with ESRI and AirZip in which ESRI offered Accelerator through its Geography Network.

Under the agreement, ESRI and its partners will make AirZip software available to 300,000 customers worldwide. "Fast image delivery is fundamental to ensuring that we offer the most robust solution possible to our customers," said Mike Tait, director of Internet services for ESRI.

"Not only is this true for emerging Web-based GIS applications, but also for the new wireless data solutions, such as location-based services, which require large images like maps to be delivered quickly and efficiently to small devices. Several of ESRI's key distributors worldwide, including ESRI China, ESRI Italy, ESRI Sweden, ESRI Switzerland and ESRI UK, as well as business partners Bradshaw Consulting, GeoData, Lovell Johns, Marshall & Associates, Mountain CAD, and Terraverge have already integrated AirZip Accelerator into their current offerings.
