NEEDHAM, MA, December 10, 2002 - PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company?, today announced it is supporting Carnegie Mellon University in its drive to give mechanical engineering students a comprehensive understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Carnegie Mellon is planning to integrate PTC technologies into undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses to help students develop computational skills and master the PLM fundamentals required by technologically advanced manufacturers.

PLM is a comprehensive framework of technology and services that permits manufacturing companies and their partners and customers to collaboratively conceptualize, design, build and manage products throughout their entire lifecycle.

Carnegie Mellon is planning to add PTC software into the freshman curriculum through an integrated PLM project spanning computer-aided design, stress analysis and manufacturing. The University will also incorporate PTC design tools into a new Master of Computational Mechanical Engineering (MCME) degree designed to prepare students for a variety of leadership roles.

"This new PTC technology will help our mechanical engineering students master the integration of emerging new software with traditional engineering principles," said Adnan Akay, head of the Carnegie Mellon mechanical engineering department.

John Stuart, senior vice president of PTC University and community services, said, "PTC has created a roadmap to help manufacturers understand how to implement growth and profitability strategies based on great products. Carnegie Mellon's cutting-edge curriculum development is totally consistent with this roadmap and the concept of 'Product First.' This agreement has the potential to create a huge long-range impact in the market as we are training the PLM engineers of the future with a methodology that uses the best, cutting edge tools and processes."
