Delcam’s CADCAM Software Specified By Ogihara For Press Tool Manufacture
Birmingham, UK – 21 Nov 2002 -- Delcam is pleased to announce that Ogihara Corporation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of tooling for Class A body panels and other sheet metal components for the automotive industry, has selected the company’s PowerSHAPE design software and PowerMILL CAM system for its Japanese Head Office. The reasons for choosing Delcam’s software included a number of specific features for press tool design, faster machining times, excellent support from the Delcam Japan office and rapid response to development requests. Akira Miyazaki, Plant Manager at Ogihara’s Ota City plant, said increased speed of press tool design and manufacture was the main reason for the choice. "For example, Delcam offered an easier method to compensate for the sag that occurs in large press tools caused by their own weight. In another benchmark, we found that we could get a 30% improvement over our current system in the cutting time needed to rough machine a large tool," explained Mr. Miyazaki. Rough machining a press tool often takes longer than finishing because of the bigger volume of metal to be removed. He also highlighted the excellent support and training from Delcam Japan during the evaluation period, and the quick response to requests for software enhancements to further improve Ogihara’s standards of high quality and fast delivery. Senior staff from Delcam’s Birmingham headquarters have already visited Japan to discuss further developments in the software to optimise its use for press tool production. "This order from Ogihara is an important step towards Delcam’s aim of becoming Japan’s major provider of CADCAM solutions both to independent press tool manufacturers and to the toolmaking divisions of major manufacturing corporations," commented Delcam’s International Sales Director, Tim Mitchell. "Our Japanese customers, like Ogihara, face fierce competition from other Asian countries with lower labour costs. They must offer faster delivery and higher quality if they are to remain successful. As a result, they have been the leaders in many of the recent developments for the mould and die industries," added Mr. Mitchell. "Ensuring that we can meet the needs of these demanding and technically-advanced customers will put us in an even better position to supply toolmakers worldwide with the software they require to maximise their productivity and profitability."
