Okino Computer Graphics to Deliver Interoperability Solutions Built on PTC's Granite OneAgreement brings CAD to non-CAD file data translation, viewing, Rendering and data optimization expertise to PTC customers and prospects.
TORONTO, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Okino Computer Graphics, a long time leader of innovative 3D data translation and rendering solutions, announced today that it has signed an agreement with PTC (NASDAQ:PMTC), the product development company(TM), to offer interoperability solutions built on PTC's Granite One to end users. Granite One is the interoperability platform based on the unmatched geometry, feature and data exchange capabilities at the core of Pro/ENGINEER, PTC's market leading mechanical computer-aided design software. One of the key advantages of solutions built on Granite is the ability to interoperate associatively, providing updates to downstream applications based on any changes in an original solid model. Okino has actively integrated the PTC Granite One modeling kernel directly into its PolyTrans & NuGraf packages to provide extensive "3D solids" model import support to its already extensive line up of 3D CAD and non-CAD file formats. Granite One brings the strong native file import support for PTCs' IGES (from solids), Pro/DESKTOP & Pro/ENGINEER, STEP and VDA-FS (with others expected in the future) to PolyTrans & NuGraf. These formats play a pivotal role in bridging the CAD and industrial design markets with the non-CAD worlds of 3D multi-media animation packages, VisSim packages, WEB publishing and polygonal modelers via the tied-and-tested Okino data translation pipelines. The new importers also offer another means to transfer Pro/ENGINEER data into Okino's powerful NuGraf rendering package which Okino has optimized for Pro/ENGINEER users since 1996. When combined with Okino's CAD data optimization routines (for hierarchy & part count simplification), very complex assemblies can be imported, optimized, simplified, then re-exported to packages such as 3DS MAX (via native plug-ins in MAX), Alias|Wavefront Maya (via native plug-ins in Maya/NT), Lightwave, SoftImage|3D and |XSI, OpenFlight/Creator, Renderman RIB, trueSpace and many others. "By concentrating on bringing rich CAD data to an extended marketplace, Okino is making our users' investment in Pro/ENGINEER increasingly more valuable" said Jim Heppelmann, PTC's chief technology officer and executive vice president, software products, "and that is increasingly imperative as companies look to increase the value of their product development processes. This relationship is another great example of how Granite is advancing product lifecycle management capabilities by removing the barriers that have, in the past, prevented even the highest fidelity CAD data from being truly universal and fully cross-functional." "This is significant moment in the evolution of our CAD file and interoperability support," said Robert Lansdale, President & CEO of Okino Computer Graphics, Inc., "Since 1988 Okino has focused squarely on being an industry leader in the import, optimization, conversion and rendering of all major 3D CAD file formats with our PolyTrans & NuGraf software packages. The availability of the Granite One kernel from PTC, and its integration into Okino software, closes the circle on our list of extensive file formats with the addition of native Pro/ENGINEER, Pro/DESKTOP, IGES (as solids) and STEP. These have long been requested formats by our users. It is fitting that a significant number of our sales since 1996 have been to Pro/ENGINEER users ( http://www.okino.com/proe.htm for an introduction), as a means to provide high quality rendering or package-to-package data translation, and thus we can now offer these same customers directly integrated Pro/ENGINEER file support. Our users will also be pleased to have direct file access to the free Pro/DESKTOP solids modeling program, available on the PTC WEB site. Says Richard Papasin, Deputy Lead at NASA Ames Research Center's Smart Systems Research Lab, "We have utilized Okino's PolyTrans and their newly integrated GraniteOne converters to facilitate a custom application which allows a large variety of 3D file formats to be imported and viewed for the Intelligent Virtual Station project (http://ssrl.arc.nasa.gov/ivs.html ). We are using Okino's PolyTrans COM interface to directly access their wide selection of converters inside our application. This method of direct integration is very unique and powerful to us, and at a low cost. The addition of the new PTC Granite converters to PolyTrans is exactly what we have been looking forward to for some time. We will be able to seamlessly import from the additional file formats of Pro/ENGINEER, IGES solids, Pro/DESKTOP, VDA-FS and others, all in their native file formats with great fidelity." About Okino Computer GraphicsFounded in 1991, with development starting in 1988, and based in Toronto, Ontario, Okino Computer Graphics, Inc. is an industry leader in the development and deployment of 3D model/scenes/NURBS/animation translation technology (PolyTrans), 3D photo-realistic rendering software (NuGraf) and OEM developer software (NuGraf Toolkit). Okino software is used the world over by all major Fortune 1000 companies, production studios, and 3D content creation, game development, CAD, engineering and product design companies.
