TROY, Mich., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Troy, Michigan-based Altair Engineering, Inc., an international product development consulting and technology company, announced today that it has signed an agreement with PTC (NASDAQ:PMTC), the product development company(TM), to offer Altair(R) HyperWorks(R) interoperability solutions built on PTC's Granite One to end users.

Granite One is the interoperability platform based on the unmatched geometry, feature and data exchange capabilities at the core of Pro/ENGINEER, PTC's market leading mechanical computer-aided design software. One of the key advantages of solutions built on Granite is the ability to interoperate associatively, providing updates to downstream applications based on any changes in an original solid model.

Through this agreement all Altair HyperWorks customers will be empowered to read native Pro/ENGINEER part and assembly files. Altair HyperWorks is an integrated suite of world-class design and analysis software tools for improving product performance, automating processes and maximizing profitability. Designers and engineers use HyperWorks to model complex structures and assemblies, study physical behavior, optimize design performance and assess manufacturing feasibility.

"Our philosophy and entire suite of computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools have been built upon an open-architecture," says George Christ, Altair Partner and Geometry/Meshing Specialist. "We truly believe in this vision and this agreement further demonstrates the power of an open environment by providing increased value to our mutual customers."

"CAE delivers functional performance evaluation, service life prediction, and manufacturability feasibility forward in the product design cycle.." says Jim Heppelmann, PTC's chief technology officer. "This agreement with Altair broadens the product development toolset available to customers of PTC data and is highly synergistic with our software solutions and product lifecycle management (PLM) initiatives."
"The ideal product development environment is achieved by carefully selecting CAD and CAE systems that work well together," offered James Dagg, Altair's Vice President of Global Software Development. "Granite One sets a benchmark for interoperability at a level that we hope someday will be standard across all CAD systems. It opens the communication between Altair's engineering solutions and PTC's CAD and PLM systems."
