HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 4, 2002 - Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions today announced the second annual GeoMedia(R) Poster Competition for students and GeoMedia Best Practices Awards for educators. The worldwide competitions recognize projects and programs based on Intergraph's GeoMedia technology, including the IntelliWhere(TM) suite of products. Students are invited to display their creative and innovative use of geographic information systems (GIS) software and geospatial technology in the classroom by entering a poster in the competition. Educators are encouraged to submit entries that illustrate practical training and application of GIS-related programs in the classroom.

Students and educators can access complete competition guidelines and details at www.intergraph.com/gis/education/awards and are prompted to submit entries before the March 31, 2003, deadline. Award recipients will be announced in April 2003 and will receive cash prizes as well as on-stage recognition at GeoSpatial World 2003, the Intergraph GeoSpatial Users Community International Training and Management Conference to be held May 19-21 in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition, a free evaluation copy of GeoMedia Professional is available for any interested applicant not currently using GeoMedia technology.

"The Best Practices Awards and Poster Competition provide both students and educators a tremendous opportunity to showcase their innovative projects and receive recognition for their exemplary work," said Fiona McKee, global academic program manager, Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions. "The competitions fill a crucial role in helping to stimulate novel approaches for incorporating the use of geospatial technology in the classroom, and thereby promoting the future of geosciences by inspiring today's youth."
Competition categories, awards, and guidelines The Poster Competition is targeted at students currently enrolled in institutions of higher education including community colleges, universities, and distance learning programs. Student winners will be awarded first, second, and third place cash awards and will have their entries displayed at GeoSpatial World 2003.

The Best Practices Awards is comprised of two distinct categories. One is a higher education classification that includes community colleges, universities, and distance learning programs. A separate classification consists of kindergarten through 12, primary, and secondary schools. Educators receiving these awards will be asked to present their entries at GeoSpatial World 2003 and will be honored with a 2003 Best Practices Award and a cash award for first, second, and third place. All award recipients will receive free registration to GeoSpatial World 2003 (see conference guidelines for winners under 18 years of age). In addition, first place winners will receive complimentary travel and hotel accommodations. All entries will be featured on the Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions Web site.
