ArtiCAD Licenses LightWorks SketchLeading interior design software supplier to introduce sketch rendering to its premier kitchen, bathroom and bedroom design system
SHEFFIELD, UK (30 October 2002) - LightWork Design, the world's leading supplier of quality advanced computer graphics software for rendering, simulation and verification solutions, today announced that ArtiCAD, a leading interior design software supplier, has licensed the new LightWorks Sketch product for use within ArtiCAD-Pro. This additional licence means that ArtiCAD has extended the range of LightWorks component technology that it uses to now include both photorealistic and non-photorealistic rendering capabilities. ArtiCAD released ArtiCAD-Pro in 1998 and the product is one of the most refined fully Windows based design and pricing solution for all kitchen, bathroom and bedroom design professionals. ArtiCAD-Pro is an easy to use, robust, and highly flexible CAD application that allows designers to create incredible presentations, along with working drawings, plans, elevations, and walk-throughs. The introduction of LightWorks Sketch to ArtiCAD-Pro will give designers instant access to a unique technology that supports rendering at the conceptual design stage and also allows the easy creation of impressionistic and stylised presentations at any point during the design process. LightWorks Sketch works directly from the 3D model to give designers the ability to instantly generate non-photorealistic and hand-drawn images that can very quickly be re-rendered from any viewpoint, without having to use other tools. A wide selection of sketch styles is available, including cartoon, pencil, ink, and various paint effects, so that designers can create many different design impressions for presentation to their clients. Commenting on this new development, Richard Turner, CEO of ArtiCAD, said, "LightWorks Sketch fits perfectly with the current functionality and usability of ArtiCAD-Pro. Our designer users will be able to evaluate alternative design approaches and be able to sketch out their ideas and visualise them in a style that matches their thought process and that of their clients." He added, "We are delighted to announce the availability of LightWorks Sketch in the next version of ArtiCAD-Pro and believe that this will have a tremendous impact on our software and the quality of presentations which our users will be able to create in order to sell their designs." Clive Davies, Partner Program Manager for LightWorks, added, "LightWorks Sketch is being integrated with our customers' applications across a wide range of design industries. For interior design, where the designer is often working very closely with the client, the use of sketch styles can be particularly valuable when evaluating different configurations as it allows the designer to portray the ambiance of the design without needing to model and render a complete photorealistic image." He continued, "For instance, early imagery might best be represented by a rough pencil style, but as colour and light become more significant an impressionistic painting style might be more appropriate. As the design becomes more defined the visualisation technique should change accordingly; pencil lines become more precise and paint styles can be chosen to pick up more detail, until eventually the model contains enough information to support full photorealism."
