Autodesk Announces Autodesk Map 6 For Map Creation And MaintenanceNew Features for Classification, COGO Input Options, Annotation of Objects, and Storing Information in Oracle Spatial
Australia, 21 October, 2002*Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), the world's leading design software and digital content company, today announced the latest version of Autodesk Map 6 for GIS & mapping professionals, engineers, planners, and utility managers. The software features new, powerful precision mapping and analysis tools for users to more efficiently and accurately create, maintain, and analyse maps for a wide array of projects. Typical projects include mapping subdivisions, designing and analysing physical assets (such as utility grids), printing and plotting legal map records, and performing many other mapping projects. Based on the AutoCAD 2002 foundation, Autodesk Map 6 is offered as a stand-alone mapping tool or serves as an important part of the Autodesk Map Series, a complete GIS workflow solution that allows Autodesk customers to keep their mapping and design data in digital form throughout the design process. With a direct connection to Oracle Spatial, Autodesk Map 6 users can easily integrate multiple data types from many sources into maps, extending the data from the back office to the front office. In addition, the mapping data created and maintained using Autodesk Map 6 can be accessed at the point of work over the Internet, an intranet, or a handheld device via Autodesk MapGuide and Autodesk OnSite View or Autodesk OnSite Enterprise, each sold separately. "The wealth of data available to mapping professionals is only of value if they can effectively integrate it during the map creation process, and make it accessible to a wide variety of users and in a variety of formats," said Andr Pravaz, regional director SAPac, Autodesk. "Autodesk Map 6 makes it easier for our customers to input data and classify it according to terminology and concepts that they're familiar with, and to communicate more readily with other users." New Features and Enhancements The following are key features and benefits in Autodesk Map 6: * Classification Features-Manage and analyse drawing files more intuitively, assign specific properties to objects, and identify, manipulate, or select objects by description * Coordinate Geometry (COGO) Input Options-Allows for the creation of highly accurate maps, particularly for users involved in input of survey data * Annotation Tool- Fast, flexible annotation and text placement tool for more informative, attractive maps * Polygon Object-Incorporates industry standard polygon handling * Enhanced Oracle Spatial Integration-Improved ability for storing and accessing geospatial data via one central data source * Enhanced Tutorials-A series of intuitive tutorials to help users learn how to use the software AvailabilityAutodesk Map 6 is currently available worldwide.
