Autodesk Launches Autodesk Revit, a New Building Design and Documentation System in Australia

New software helps Australian design firm reduce preparation of Development Application documents from three weeks to five days

Sydney, Australia, 14 October 2002 - Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), the leading design software and digital content company, today announced that the world's top parametric building modeller Autodesk� Revit� is now available in Australia and is already delivering time and cost savings in the design of an Australian community development.

Autodesk Revit helps design professionals move to building information modelling-the next step in model-based design-which is about creating dynamic building databases that support iterative change in a building's design, construction and operation.

Building information modelling solutions create and operate on digital databases for collaboration, manage change throughout those databases so that a change to any part of the database is coordinated in all other parts, and capture and preserve information for reuse by additional industry-specific applications.

According to Pravaz, mistakes and coordination problems often remain in the construction documents, despite the time and effort trying to find and fix them. This means that architects are not focusing on their core competency which is design and therefore their work does not always reflect their best efforts.
"Autodesk Revit allows more time for design and solving real architectural problems by the elimination of co-ordination time and manual checking. In addition, as a common tool shared by the entire design team, it allows designers and more experienced team members to work concurrently with the project as the documentation is being produced."

Wesley Benn, Director of Benn Design, who has used Autodesk Revit for the last six months, agrees, saying that Autodesk Revit has allowed him to spend more time designing and less time doing the drudge work of drafting.

Benn recently used Autodesk Revit to prepare development application documents for the conversion of a nursing home site in Liverpool, New South Wales into 28 units and 26 building lots. Benn was able to prepare highly detailed documents for multiple buildings averaging 450msq in size and with complex roof forms in just five days as opposed to the three weeks this process would normally take.
