Intergraph Adds Extra Dimension to Enhance Terrain Analysis and Visualization on the Desktop with GeoMedia Terrain 5.0New 3D functionality extends GeoMedia environment for better decision making
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Oct. 1, 2002 - Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions today announced the worldwide availability of GeoMedia(r) Terrain 5.0, a powerful desktop software for terrain generation, elevation processing, and 3D visualization. GeoMedia Terrain extends Intergraph's GeoMedia 5.0 to give GIS professionals unprecedented 3D terrain analysis and visualization capabilities that are integrated on the desktop. With 3D functionality to perform flythroughs, display color-coded elevation or shaded-relief raster backdrops, and create contour, slope, and visibility polygon features, GeoMedia Terrain helps mapping and GIS professionals better evaluate and communicate features of a site. For example, 3D models and views created with GeoMedia Terrain can increase understanding of a location for uses such as determining flight path obstructions, selecting military emplacements, choosing a sight for a home, or deciding on new construction corridors for highways. "GeoMedia Terrain truly provides an extra dimension for GIS model and feature analysis," commented Bill Pope, product manager of GeoMedia Terrain, Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions. "Equipping GeoMedia users with these powerful, integrated 3D visualization tools lets them learn more about their models and make more intuitive decisions. With GeoMedia products, we continue to bring together the latest essential technology to help our customers maximize the value of their GIS data." Unique technology for powerful analysis and modeling GeoMedia Terrain uniquely employs tiled Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) models to process large amounts of terrain elevation data from sources such as USGS Digital Elevation Model (DEM), USGS Spatial Data Transfer Specification (SDTS), Intergraph grid elevation data, Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED1 and 2), and GMT defined ASCII formation. This enables greater accuracy for feature calculations in elevation models. The powerful combination of GeoMedia and GeoMedia Terrain delivers best-in-breed technology for applications ranging from land use planning and real estate to commercial aviation and military deployment. GeoMedia Terrain's comprehensive set of 3D capabilities includes functionality to: - - Generate aspect polygons indicating the direction of terrain slope - - Display elevation, slope, and aspect based on the cursor position in a MapView - - Tailor profile views of an elevation between two points along a selected feature - - Create cartographic-quality contour features with user specified intervals - - Create slope polygons from user-specified ranges and locate significant slope areas - - Display either color-coded elevation or gray-scale shaded representations of a model - - Create both visible and invisible area polygons as a means to detect hidden locations www.intergraph.com/gis/gmterrain Intergraph Mapping and GIS SolutionsIntergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions brings together geospatial and information technology to help customers achieve their business goals.
