NEEDHAM, Mass. - September 26, 2002 - PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company, today announced it was named a leading vendor in the PLM market in AMR Research's September 2002 report, "Product Lifecycle Management; What's Real Now." AMR Research, a leading provider of business application and technology research and advisory services for global organizations used the report as a springboard to officially launch its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) service today. The report is a comprehensive look at the PLM market, the vendors in the space and customers of those vendors who are implementing these solutions. The report underscores PTC's early success in the PLM market through discussions of the comprehensiveness of its Windchill platform and the ability of Windchill to address complex customer requirements. The report examines seven of the leading PLM vendors including PTC, MatrixOne, EDS, SAP, Eigner, IBM Dassault and Agile, in a variety of different categories. In the report, AMR Research states, "PTC comes out on top overall, followed closely by MatrixOne, EDS, and SAP?" PTC's PLM functionality scored higher than the group average in the product portfolio management, customer needs management, collaborative product design, product data management and direct materials sourcing functionality areas. In addition, PTC scored higher than the vendor average in the overall functionality, technology and market presence and vision categories. "We're pleased AMR Research considers us the defining vendor in the PLM marketplace," said PTC President and CEO Richard Harrison. Harrison credits the synergy between the Product First movement taking place in business today and PTC's solutions that help its customers realize the important benefits of Product First?. "Our customers are very focused on getting back to what matters most ? the products they create and the tangible value they bring to their companies," said Harrison. "For 15 years, PTC has been committed to developing software solutions that enable our customers to create superior products that win in their respective markets. We think this report demonstrates that we are doing just that." In the report, AMR Research states, "It is fair to say that PTC has the earliest and most compelling vision for PLM?" In addition, AMR Research praised PTC's Windchill suite of offerings, stating, "[PTC's] PLM offering which is comprised of an extensive set of Link application products built on the Windchill platform is the widest true suite available in the market. Its technology foundation is well conceived for the primary strategic issues of PLM, namely the ability to reach many different kinds of users over the web with very rich product information." The report goes on to say, "For these reasons, PTC is high on the short list of most users considering a PLM strategy. If things go well, PTC could be the market leader over the critical next three years." PTC is the world's largest software company with a total commitment to product development. The company services more than 33,000 customers worldwide.
