Capvidia Announces FormatWorks

Leuven, Belgium, September 25, 2002- Capvidia announces the release of FormatWorks add-in to SolidWorks� to solve frustrating data incompatibility problems occurring during the import of 3D models into SolidWorks. FormatWorks offers automated import, repair, healing, translation, and checking the quality of the model. FormatWorks features 3DVision technology and provides complementary extensions to SolidWorks.

FormatWorks is very easy to use since it is completely integrated into SolidWorks. Most of the repair and healing capabilities are fully automatic, while manual operations are intuitive and easy to use. FormatWorks verifies and improves model quality of models created in SolidWorks or imported form another CAD system. FormatWorks extends SolidWorks file import capabilities with (IGES, VDA-FS) formats, provides model geometry check (VDA4955, AIAG D-15, JAMA), automatically verifies and improves model to a valid SolidWorks model and features alternative file export (IGES with CAD system flavors) capability. Faulty SolidWorks models can be easily repaired with minimum user interaction.

FormatWorks geometry check verifies model quality in accordance with the automotive standard recommendations (VDA4955, AIAG D-15, JAMA) and allows users to define their own quality criteria. You can define your "quality standards" by specifying the minimum size and length of geometrical entities (edges, surfaces, sharp angles, etc.). The model quality can be checked on a model originating from any CAD system. FormatWorks can directly import neutral data formats (IGES, VDA-FS, STEP) and extends SolidWorks import capabilities with native file formats such as CATIA v4, CADDS, UGS, and PRO-E.

FormatWorks also provides functionality for surface reconstruction, surface trimming, and merging coincident surfaces. These functions are developed to repair surfaces in order to meet CAD quality criteria. The merging of coincident surfaces allows users to simplify complex models while maintaining the exact geometry.
