VectorWorks ARCHITECT 10 Released

Columbia, Maryland (September 23, 2002)-In conjunction with the VectorWorks release, Nemetschek North America today announced the availability of VectorWorks ARCHITECT 10. ARCHITECT contains all of the tools and commands of VectorWorks 10, plus ARCHITECT offers many new and improved features specifically for architectural design. Company officials stated, that in addition to the efficiency, productivity, artistic, 3D, and compatibility improvements, ARCHITECT is much more flexible than before.

Robert Anderson, Vice President of Integrated Products for Nemetschek North America stated, "One of our many goals for ARCHITECT 10 was to give architects more flexibility. One way that we achieved this was by creating user-defined naming standards for layers and classes which are now configurable to work with any layer/class standard."

In addition to flexibility, VectorWorks ARCHITECT 10 boasts a unique Space Planning technology that allows architects to move seamlessly from the schematic design, to design development, and into contract documents. Key is VectorWorks ARCHITECT 10's intelligent Space Object, which allows architects to easily assign room information such as department, space name, and space number. Space Objects can easily be reshaped and repositioned to create presentation-quality bubble and stacking diagrams. From there, ARCHITECT can automatically generate interior and exterior walls in both 2D and 3D and begin the design development phase of the project.

Also improved is ARCHITECT's core wall technology. A new Connected Walls mode keep walls connected as they are moved and automatically heals breaks when walls are removed. A new command makes it easy to draw complex objects like handrails, guardrails, walls and window walls from simple polylines. And, an improved Wall Insertion mode for symbols makes it easy to place symbols near or on top of walls without them becoming part of the wall system. Additionally, the improved windows and doors now deal with wall cavities.

Improved presentation capabilities are achieved in ARCHITECT 10 with a new Model Setup that allows designers to immediately start designing while the Model View tool provides quick and flexible elevations and perspective views. Artistic enhancements include new image and gradient fill types, creating all new graphic possibilities.

Now integrated into VectorWorks ARCHITECT, the 3D Power Pack offers version 10 users advanced solids, surface, and solid/surface modeling capabilities. Improvements to the solids modeling engine increased the speed of some operations four-fold. Additionally, the 3D Power Pack offers improved shelling and enhanced NURBS curve and surface manipulation.

Better compatibility can be found with improved import and export options. VectorWorks ARCHITECT 10 has Stereo Lithography File export and an Import/Export IGES command, as well as offering enhanced export image functionality. DXF/DWG received a boost with support for AutoCAD dimensions, associative boundary hatches and solid fills, and the ability to import DWG files as VectorWorks symbols.
