PTC Announces Harley-Davidson Motor Company as Winner of International Awards Competition

MELBOURNE, Australia - September 13, 2002 - PTC, the product development company, announces The Harley Davidson Motor Company's VRSCA V-Rod Motorcycle received the award for Best Overall entry at the 2002 PTC/USER International Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The Harley-Davidson design was judged the overall winner among more than 300 entries, submitted from dozens of countries.

The PTC Awards Competition is an international forum for PTC customers to display successful product design achievements using PTC solutions. Awards are given in each of eight industry categories: aerospace, consumer products, education, electronics, heavy equipment, industrial equipment, medical equipment, and transportation.
Capturing both the Best Overall and Transportation industry awards, the Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod Motorcycle, a cutting-edge design, was created, in part, by using a range of PTC product development and collaboration solutions.

Australian finalists in the Awards included Lockwood Security Products, Raytheon Australia, Harrop Engineering and Kenworth Trucks.

An expert panel of judges comprised of individuals from several major engineering publications performed the first round of judging. Finalists in the competition were also judged by participants at the PTC/USER Conference and online. Decisions were based on the entries' comprehensive use of PTC solutions, creativity, and technical merit. Submissions were also evaluated on the benefits each design or design process has provided to the entrant's company. Individual winners were selected in each industry category.

• Education: Mechanical Engineering Department, Kasetsart University (Bangkok, Thailand) - Bangkok Skytrain
• Electronics: V&V Design PVt. Ltd. (Mumbai, India) - Video-Phone (VX7825)
• Heavy Equipment: John Deere Agricultural Equipment Division (Waterloo, IA) - John Deere Agricultural Equipment Division 8020 Series Tractor
• Industrial Equipment: CADB Turbopump and Solver Engineering Consulting (Voronexh, Russia) - Natural Gas Turbine
• Medical Equipment: Stryker Medical (Kalamazoo, MI) - Trio Mobile Surgery Platform
• Transportation: Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Wauwatosa, WI) - VRSCA V-Rod Motorcycle
