Compal Electronics Selects PTC for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

PTC Received Million-Dollar Windchill and Pro/ENGINEER Order from Compal

NEEDHAM, Mass. - September 10, 2002 - /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC (NASDAQ:PMTC), the product development company(TM), today announced it has received an order for more than $1 million in Windchill(R) and Pro/ENGINEER(R) software from Compal Electronics, Inc., one of the world's leading manufacturers of computer notebooks and high quality monitor products. As Compal steadily expands into the communication appliance industry, the company, headquartered in Taiwan, expects to leverage Windchill(R) and Pro/ENGINEER(R) to optimize its product development process, speed time-to-market, and improve product information control and access. The software was shipped in PTC's third fiscal quarter (ended June 29, 2002).

A PTC customer since 1994, Compal benefited from great user and process productivity, and product quality improvements with PTC's Pro/ENGINEER(R) design software. Compal will immediately commence a Process Improvement Project (PIP) to re-engineer its business and product development process by using PTC's Windchill product lifecycle management solutions. This will enable Compal's Notebook R&D team to collaborate with its manufacturing team, suppliers and customers in different geographic areas, and share real-time and accurate product and process information in its product development process. Compal expects to shorten its notebook product development cycle by 25 percent, as well as build a knowledge management database. Compal also plans to implement Windchill solutions in its CRT/LCD Displays, PDA and Mobile Communication business units.
