Messier-Dowty Implements EDS' Teamcenter Enterprise Product Lifecycle Management SoftwareSoftware and Services Contract Will See Existing Disparate Data Management Systems Replaced With Unified Environment
LONDON - September 10, 2002 - /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS (NYSE:EDS) today announced the implementation by Messier-Dowty of EDS' Teamcenter Enterprise product lifecycle management (PLM) software to provide more than 350 engineers at the aircraft landing gear manufacturer's United Kingdom (UK) facilities with ready access to up-to-date product information. Messier-Dowty is the world leader in the design, development, manufacture and support of aircraft landing gear systems. In addition to its facilities in Gloucester in the UK, the company has operations in other parts of Europe, North America and Asia. Under the software and services contract, terms of which were not disclosed, EDS PLM Solutions has supplied and implemented the Teamcenter Enterprise collaboration foundation and Part Family Manager (PFM) software modules from its Teamcenter product lifecycle management and collaboration software suite. The contract also calls for ongoing software support services. Intended to replace a number of existing, disparate data management systems currently in use at Messier-Dowty, Teamcenter Enterprise will eventually be used to support configuration management and change control during the product development process. However, in phase 1 of the system roll-out it provides view-only access to design information generated on Messier-Dowty's CAD/CAM system. In later phases of its implementation, Teamcenter Enterprise will be interfaced to Catia and other authoring systems to provide integrated control of the product development process. "By replacing several different methods that we have at the moment for storing, managing and distributing product information, Teamcenter Enterprise will give us a far greater degree of control over the complete product lifecycle process," said Mike Pictor, MIS project controller at Messier-Dowty. "It will enable the sharing of design information, such as 2D drawings, 3D CAD models and other product information between the engineering and manufacturing departments and across the business as a whole, including our facilities in Europe and North America," he adds. "We are confident that this will result in time and cost savings for us." Phase 1 of the system's implementation was completed recently when Teamcenter was rolled out to more than 350 engineers at Messier-Dowty's UK facilities. About TeamcenterEDS' Teamcenter software enables extended enterprises to capture, manage, access, integrate and leverage diverse types of product information, including product requirements, project data, engineering design data, parts/documents and product configurations, in a Web-native environment. Teamcenter also provides visualisation and collaboration solutions that enterprises can use to create CAD-neutral, PDM-neutral environments with virtual rooms for conducting real-time conferences. These solutions -- which enable everyone involved in the product lifecycle to collaborate from anywhere in the world -- include virtual prototyping, 2D/3D visualisation and sophisticated capabilities for performing product assembly analysis during the early stages of the product development process.
