UK Design Team Working on Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Deploys Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management Software From EDSEnables Integration of CAD Data Into Common Product Information Database Accessible By as Many as 10,000 Designers, Engineers and Production Specialists at All JSF Program Partners
LONDON - September 10, 2002 - /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS (NYSE:EDS) today announced a contract with the UK-based team responsible for the design and development of sections of the fuselage of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) -- the next- generation fighter aircraft currently being developed for the United States Department of Defence, the UK Ministry of Defence and other nations by a multi-national team led by Lockheed Martin. The contract, terms of which were not disclosed, represents Phase 2 of an Information Technology (IT) systems development programme designed to enable the UK-based JSF design team at BAE Systems' Warton and Salmesbury sites to collaborate effectively with its other JSF Program partners around the world. Phase 1 of the programme saw the implementation of EDS' Teamcenter Enterprise product lifecycle management (PLM) software to manage and provide secure access to the JSF Program common product information database. Now, in Phase 2, EDS is to provide and implement software to integrate design data from the UK team's CAD/CAM system into the Teamcenter-enabled JSF product database. Initially this will support around 150 concurrent Catia users in the UK but this figure is expected to grow to some 500 users, including non-CAD users, by the end of the year. Teamcenter and JSFWith Teamcenter, Lockheed Martin and its team of Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems and an estimated 60 other partners and suppliers, will integrate all aspects of the JSF Program, from design, through fabrication and assembly, to in-service support, by creating an extremely secure and immediately accessible comprehensive information database, complete with all design requirements, design results and bill of materials. This database will be available via local and wide area networks and the Internet, enabling the potentially ten thousand designers, engineers and production specialists expected to participate in the program to collaborate continuously and seamlessly around the world.
