Leuven, Belgium, September 5, 2002 - Capvidia today announced that its market leading mold/tool/die design product, FaceWorks 2.5, has achieved Certified Gold Product status for SolidWorks® 2001Plus, a leading three-dimensional computer aided design (3D CAD) software solution. FaceWorks dramatically speeds up the process of mold/tool/die design by extending SolidWorks’ solid modeling capabilities with powerful surface operations while structuring the mold design process.

"We’re excited to welcome FaceWorks as the latest Certified Gold Product for SolidWorks," said Brian Houle, partner program manager for SolidWorks. "Capvidia has done a remarkable job integrating FaceWorks into the SolidWorks environment, providing our users with an easy to use, fully associative solution. With the combination of FaceWorks and SolidWorks, mold designers everywhere will be able to get products to market quicker."

"We are very pleased to achieve Gold Partner status," said Lyle Fischer, technical marketing director for Capvidia. "We listened to our partners and customers and found that there was a real need for a product such as FaceWorks. They wanted something that was efficient, easy to use, largely automatic, and fully associative. The response we have received from FaceWorks has exceeded our expectations. The SolidWorks Gold Partner Status adds further confidence for our partners and customers that FaceWorks is a leading software solution."

FaceWorks combines the power of SolidWorks software with functions designed to simplify tooling and manufacturing applications on 3D CAD models. FaceWorks uses the latest SolidWorks user interface concepts (such as the Property Manager) providing smooth integration into the SolidWorks environment. Users benefit from standard SolidWorks functions complemented with specialized, easy-to-use tools simplifying the tool-making process dramatically and minimizing costs and manufacturing times.

FaceWorks Features:

  • Automatic Parting Line Generation: With this feature, the parting line can be automatically generated in such a way that it always forms a closed loop. Problematic segments such as undercuts are automatically split and assigned to the respective core or cavity. Additional changes can be easily introduced using standard SolidWorks commands. Users can also define the parting line manually.
  • Automatic Parting Surface Generation: This features a proprietary radiate surface method for automatic construction of a 3D parting surface. The parting surfaces can be defined in 2.5D and/or 3D.
  • Automatic Core/Cavity Generation – With this feature, users can generate editable core and cavity solids in a single step.
  • Multi-Split - The multi-split option automatically generates inserts, sliders, and lifters. Using a slide control, users can visualize the mold opening in multiple directions.
  • Automatic Multiple Filling of Openings - This allows the user to close all openings in a single step.
  • Full Associative Support - FaceWorks supports feature-based modeling provided by SolidWorks. FaceWorks keeps track of all changes and updates the original part or the core/cavity assemblies after any modifications are made.
