NOVATO, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IMSI(R) (BULLETIN BOARD: IMSI) , a leading developer of visual content, design, and graphics software, today announced the shipping and general availability of TurboCADCAM. TurboCADCAM represents the first vertical, industry specific application based on the powerful, yet easy to use, TurboCAD Professional engine.

"This product is the much anticipated natural extension of our CAD line," says Robert Mayer, Executive Vice President of IMSI. "Based on input from our users, we decided to take the already powerful TurboCAD engine and apply it to machining."

TurboCADCAM is fully integrated with TurboCAD Professional, IMSI's popular Windows(R) based application that easily creates 2D drawings, 3D Surface and Solid Models and photo-realistic renderings. With a built-in tool database, TurboCADCAM delivers easy 2-1/2D CNC programming that is capable of milling, drilling, tapping, reaming, boring, and graving, pocketing, and open pocketing. It also includes automatic Point-to-Point tool path creation. The software allows the user to quickly and easily import CAD files from other CAD programs and edit them using TurboCAD's powerful drawing and editing tools. In addition, TurboCADCAM supports the import of G-Code from CNC machines and CADCAM software. This code may be edited and then output or saved as a CAD file.

"TurboCADCAM was specifically designed by machinists for machinists. It is really the only package under $5,000 that combines this level of flexibility and ease-of-use with the power necessary for machining jobs," continues Mayer.

The software was designed to minimize the complexity of generating machining code from drawings by taking the user through a series of streamlined, progressive steps. It does not use Post Processors. Rather, it generates native G-Code specific to virtually any controller. This allows the user to see exactly what will be run, to edit the G-Code on the same screen as the drawing, and then instantly see the result. This will save hours of work and help avoid costly mistakes. An Active Toolpath Segment is highlighted during simulation so that the user can see the corresponding machining code even if the code is edited or the file is closed and then reopened. TurboCADCAM supports G-Code ISO 6983.

TurboCADCAM automatically calculates and displays the operation time and cumulative time. This gives machinists precise data for time and cost estimates, thereby allowing them to more accurately bid jobs and ensure a more efficient execution of the job from the start. TurboCADCAM will also allow the user to specify Load Factor Compensation and adjust Feed and Speed by machine and by tool at any time with a few clicks of the mouse.

TurboCADCAM supports all standard machining operations such as line milling, pocketing and canned cycles for drilling. It's the first CAM program in the world to include support for tapping heads. TurboCADCAM hosts a fully customizable tool database so the selection of a specific tool is easy. The user simply chooses the type of tool, enters the diameter, number of flutes and tool material, and the correct tool is selected instantly.

TurboCADCAM will be showcased at the IMTS show in Chicago, September 4-11, 2002, in the General Pavilion, Hall B, Booth #6477. The software can be purchased online directly from IMSI for an estimated price of $995.
