BEVERLY, MA - August 26, 2002 - Infrasoft Corporation®, a global supplier of IT solutions for civil engineering, today announced Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) of Bedford, New Hampshire has successfully completed a Pilot project using the new-to-the-market Arenium® collaborative engineering software. VHB is in the preliminary design phase of the Plaistow-Kingston Route 125 Project for the New Hampshire DOT. This $20 million dollar endeavor is six miles long and includes approximately 20 intersections. VHB’s role in the renewal plan involves evaluating various design alternatives, bringing the plan forward to a Public Hearing, preparing a Final Environmental Assessment, and preparing 35% plans. The Arenium solution enables a team of engineers to simultaneously work on a shared project, from initial concept design to management of the final asset.

The Route 125 project begins at East Road in Plaistow, NH and continues northerly to Main Street in Kingston, NH. The purpose of the six-mile reconstruction is to improve capacity and safety, relieve associated traffic congestion, and enhance the safe and efficient access to abutting properties along the corridor. The majority of the heavily congested corridor is currently a two-lane section. A 5-lane section is currently proposed for the southerly section of the highway. The greatest challenges of the project will be minimizing impact to numerous homes and businesses along the corridor, and implementing an effective access management plan to provide safe passage to these adjacent properties. The Public Hearing is currently scheduled for the Spring of 2003.

“The team found Arenium to be an invaluable tool on such a complex highway design project, allowing different sections of the project to be worked on simultaneously, with each team member having immediate access to the others’ designs and revisions,” said Senan Murdock, P.E.at VHB. “Previously on projects, team members would have to make a copy of the project and work locally as only one user could be in a project at a time. This resulted in having to put the pieces back together on a regular basis. Arenium allows a more collaborative approach, and could provide a substantial savings in time on large projects.”

The 5-person team also said Arenium allowed the design team to easily modify the workflow and eliminate multiple and, potentially different, copies of the same design. The group also found Arenium extremely easy to use and was impressed with the stability and functionality of the software. Marty Kennedy is VHB’s manager of the Plaistow-Kingston project. Other key VHB staff includes Tony Grande, Ryan Noyes, Matt Hall, Frank Koczalka, and Senan Murdock of the Bedford, NH office.

Arenium works in tandem with Infrasoft’s MX line of civil design software--MXROAD, MXRENEW, and MXRAIL. The technology enables engineers and CAD operators to work concurrently on a 3D CAD model, over a local-or wide-area networks or the Internet. Arenium is the only web-enabled product in the marketplace allowing companies to leverage multi-company workforces to bring civil projects to market faster.
