PLANO, Texas - August 20, 2002 -  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS (NYSE:EDS) today announced the selection of its Solid Edge(R) computer-aided design (CAD) software by Emerson Motor Technologies, a business unit of St. Louis-based Emerson. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Emerson Motors purchased 34 licenses of Solid Edge as part of a corporate-wide effort to streamline technology deployment across Emerson's worldwide footprint and boost productivity. Emerson cited ease-of-use and low cost of ownership as critical factors in its choice of Solid Edge.

"We are adopting Solid Edge as a means to consolidate CAD resources, reduce costs and enhance design capability," said Ted Peachee, chief technology officer for Emerson Motor Technologies. "Implementing Solid Edge carries additional benefits because it is either already in use or being adopted across other Emerson divisions. For example, in a case where a sister company is using our motors, the ability to transfer Solid Edge design files back and forth provides significant advantage."

Among other Emerson divisions using Solid Edge are Liebert, Buehler, Ridge Tool Company, White-Rodgers and Therm-O-Disc. Emerson Motor Technologies plans to use Solid Edge at sites in the United States, Mexico and China.

In April, EDS announced that Emerson had selected Solid Edge for CAD and Teamcenter(TM) product lifecycle management software as part of the company's global e-engineering initiative designed to implement common technologies across the company. The selection followed a comprehensive, year-long evaluation of multiple systems. The cross-divisional selection team's goal was to leverage Emerson's global engineering resources to provide such benefits as increased productivity, reduced time-to-market and enhance processes in Emerson's engineering services organization.
