Delcam Customer Moorland Toolmaking Named "Toolmaker of the Year"

August 16, 2002 - Delcam is pleased to offer its congratulations to Moorland Toolmaking after the company was named "Toolmaker of the year" in the recent UK Plastics Industry Awards organised by Plastics and Rubber Weekly. Moorland Toolmaking, which operates from a 1,600 sq. m. centre in Batley, West Yorkshire, UK, manufactures tooling from small, high-precision, multi-cavity moulds to complete suites up to a maximum size of 10 tonnes.

Injection moulds for plastics form the main part of its business but Moorland Toolmaking is also experienced in the production of compression tools for thermosets, moulds for rubbers and tooling for blow moulding. In addition to new tooling, the company has a department dedicated to tool refurbishment.

Moorland Toolmaking has been a Delcam customer for five years and now uses PowerSHAPE for all its product design and tooling design and PowerMILL for all its NC programming. To meet growing demand for larger projects, the company has recently upgraded to faster computers as part of its "Investment in Technology" programme. It has also invested more than �200,000 in two Hurco CNC machining centres.

One of the latest of the many projects that Moorland has completed successfully was the development of tooling for a wind and solar powered street lighting system that needs no external power source. The design, which was created by IPS Manufacturing, consists of integrated solar panels and a small wind turbine that charge batteries housed in a polycarbonate shell. The batteries power an array of LEDs that provide illumination.

Congratulating Moorland Toolmaking on the award, Delcam UK Managing Dirctor Clive Martell said, "Moorland Toolmaking's success sets an example to the UK Toolmaking industry of how to progress in today's challenging business environment.
