MCLEAN, Va., - August 1, 2002 -  /PRNewswire/ -- The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) is being held at McCormick Place in Chicago from September 4 - 11, 2002. This is the 75th Anniversary Show; the first was held in 1927 in Cleveland.

It will use all five levels, and all three exhibit halls, at Chicago's McCormick Place. IMTS 2002 features over 1,300 exhibitors occupying 1,300,000 square feet of exhibit space.

For eight days every even numbered year, the show converts McCormick Place into "a productivity marketplace." Members of the world's manufacturing industries gather to view the largest and most complete display and demonstration of manufacturing technology ever seen in the Americas.

In 2000, IMTS was the largest trade show in the United States, reported Tradeshow Week. It attracted 114,675 registrants (among them, a record 17,544 visitors from foreign countries).

IMTS is a major selling event -- where exhibitors transact hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of business on the show floor each day. In 2000, sales on the show floor were $804 million, the third straight show to exceed $800 million in sales.

Attendee information is available at the IMTS hotline: 800-322-IMTS. Complete IMTS information, exhibitor showrooms and show planning tools are available on the World Wide Web at http://www.imtsnet.org/ .

Exhibits at IMTS 2002 are nearly all arranged in product pavilions. This very successful idea first appeared at IMTS in 1990 and has grown every show since. Nine pavilions cluster exhibitors of similar products together, helping visitors manage their time effectively at IMTS and delivering concentrated crowds of interested attendees to exhibitors.

The IMTS 2002 lineup includes: the Abrasive Machining / Sawing / Finishing Pavilion; the Metal Cutting Pavilion; the Quality Assurance Pavilion; the EDM Pavilion; the Controls & CAD CAM Pavilion; the Machine Components / Cleaning / Environmental Pavilion; the Gear Generation Pavilion; the Metal Forming & Fabricating / Laser Pavilion; and the Tooling & Workholding Systems Pavilion.

IMTS 2002 is complemented by the IMTS 2002 Manufacturing Conference, the country's most important manufacturing conference. Co-sponsored and organized by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, it features speakers and content designed to give attendees a competitive edge. The conference is held in McCormick Place, alongside IMTS.

IMTS 2002 is held in all three halls of McCormick Place; two levels in the Lakeside Center (formerly the East Building), two levels in the North Building and the entire exhibit floor in the South Building. Separately, each of the five levels at IMTS 2002 would rank among the nation's 200 largest trade shows.

IMTS 2002 is sponsored and managed by AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. The show has been held in various forms and locations since 1927.

IMTS -- The International Manufacturing Technology Show is the largest marketplace for buyers of machine tools and related manufacturing technology in the Americas. The eight-day show, held in even-numbered years at Chicago's McCormick Place, draws over one hundred thousand attendees and exhibitors from the U.S. and some 40 nations.
