Prestigious Ascot Prize Designed in ArtCAM

July 31, 2002 - At this year's Royal Ascot Race Meeting, the Queen presented to the winner of the 2002 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes a jewellery prize designed using ArtCAM Pro. A magnificent 18ct gold and platinum piece emulating an Ascot badge included a brilliant cut diamond together with six princess cut diamond nails, capturing the delicate grass texture of the race course. This priceless piece commissioned by De Beers was designed by Jess Canty of Jess James London and created by David Stokes of Delcam plc using the ArtCAM Pro modelling software.

By using ArtCAM Pro, Jess Canty and David Stokes were able to complete the entire design in a day and have a prototype model CNC machined in a few hours. The speed at which the prototype was produced as well as the surface finish quality were deciding factors in Jess James winning the job. Jess Canty commented that; "Using traditional manufacturing techniques, this jewellery piece would have taken two or three weeks to produce. Areas such as the grass texture and raised lettering would have been very difficult, if not impossible to create. Using ArtCAM Pro I was able to design and create the whole item within a single day!".

Hean Studio cast the finished piece in platinum and 18ct gold, whereupon it was hand finished and diamond set by Jess James London. David Stokes, who manages Alcami Solutions at Delcam, said; "I feel a great sense of pride being part of such a prestigious project and it's been a great opportunity to show off ArtCAM's capabilities".

Hean Studio and Jess James London have subsequently purchased ArtCAM Pro and the Alcami Design and Manufacturing Solution from Delcam Plc.
