Zuken USA Launches Revolutionary Electromechanical Tool Bridging the Gap Between Electronic and Mechanical Design

WESTFORD, Mass., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- In a significant move to bridge the gap between electronic and mechanical design, Zuken USA today announced Board Modeler: a CAD vendor-neutral, stand-alone solution that resolves electromechanical problems during the design flow by reducing design iterations between electrical and mechanical design departments, decreasing duplication of effort, and providing greater form and fit accuracy.

Board Modeler is the industry's first tool to provide engineers with a concurrent, collaborative floorplanning environment that can directly import and export information from schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical design tools. Assembly accuracy is enhanced using Zuken's online component database, which contains over 5 million accurately detailed 3D components.

Developed for electronic products that continue to shrink in size while growing in complexity, Board Modeler has proven to be a huge success in Asia's fiercely competitive consumer electronics market.

"As electronic products become smaller and more complex, electromechanical issues become even tighter and more complicated," commented Kent McLeroth, Vice President of Zuken USA's Dynamic Solutions Division. "Board Modeler's solution is a direct reflection of our commitment to solving our customers electromechanical issues."

Board Modeler Methodology

- - Pre-PCB Layout
Board Modeler eliminates duplication of effort between electronic and mechanical by permitting the electrical designer to import board outlines, pre-placed parts and obstacles directly from mechanical CAD tools. Board Modeler then exports outline, PCB shape, pre-placed components, and mechanical constraints directly to the PCB layout.

- - Placement Verification
Following PCB placement, the placed design is imported to Board Modeler's 3D environment, where the simplified component shapes normally found in a 2D PCB layout system are replaced with accurate 3D component models from the Zuken online library. Users may then import housings, cables, flex connectors, and other items from the mechanical system creating a highly accurate 3D rendering of the entire electromechanical system. Project engineers as well as mechanical and electrical engineers may use this model to identify and resolve electromechanical problems early in the design phase.

- - Placement Correction
Board Modeler includes online electromechanical checking utilities to verify clearances in a true 3D environment. Its advanced placement functionality allows movement of components to resolve electromechanical problems. Once conflicts have been resolved, and the design revised, changes are back annotated to the PCB layout system; the final, detailed assembly is then exported to the mechanical system.

- - CAD Systems Supported
Board Modeler uses industry standard neutral file formats including STEP, ACIS, and IDF to bridge the gaps between virtually any PCB design and mechanical CAD system.

PRICING
Zuken's Board Modeler solution is available immediately through direct sales in the United States for $17,500.00.
