Texas A&M University Adds COSMOS/ to its Engineering Department
LOS ANGELES, CA - July 29, 2002 - COSMOS, the analysis business unit of SolidWorks Corporation, today announced that Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) will incorporate 25 seats of COSMOS/DesignSTAR into its Marine Engineering Technology Engineering Department. U. S. News and World Report lists Texas A&M's engineering program as being among the top 50 in the United States. TAMUG, the only branch campus of Texas A&M, specializes in marine/maritime studies. The Marine Engineering Department, together with Maritime Transportation, forms the Texas Maritime Academy, one of only six in the nation and the only one in the south. Its curriculum prepares students for engineering technologist positions in the maritime profession. As a thermal power-oriented specialization, Marine Engineering Technology focuses on power cycles, principles, and methods used to convert fossil fuel energy into useful power. Students who elect to pursue the license option obtain the right to become engineer officers on ships. The others work in the maritime field or the energy sector. COSMOS/DesignSTAR will be introduced to students at the freshman level in the Intro to Mechatonics course but will be mainly used in the sophomore year in the Mechanics of Materials course. About the University of TexasA&M at Galveston (TAMUG) Rated as one of the top four public universities in Texas by Time Magazine, Texas A&M offers 139 fields of undergraduate study within its nine colleges and ocean-oriented branch campus at Galveston.
