FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL 2002, FARNBOROUGH, ENGLAND - July 22, 2002 - EDS today launched version 2.0 of its Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense software solution from EDS PLM Solutions - enabling the digital product development process and reducing the cost of creating products over the Internet.

The global services leader made the announcement in conjunction with today's opening of the Farnborough International 2002 air show in Farnborough, England. The biennial air show is the worldwide aerospace industry's premier business event.

Using military and emerging industry standards, Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense supports the unique requirements of aerospace and defense companies by providing a robust set of product lifecycle management (PLM) capabilities. The out-of-the-box solution requires minimal effort to deploy into production, enabling customers to realize faster time to value and reduced cost of ownership.

The new Teamcenter version features numerous enhancements, most notably a new Web-browser interface enabling broader, easier access for supporting integrated product development environments.

"Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense strengths lie in our extensive experience and input from leading A&D companies," said Chuck Grindstaff, president, PLM Products, EDS PLM Solutions. "This experience has enabled us to build a 'best-practices' approach in the development of our A&D offering. And, this approach is validated by our global, market-leading aerospace and defense presence, where eight of the top 10 companies use our products, representing a total of 150,00 seats in the A&D industry alone."

Configuration, Change and Contract Data Management

Most aerospace and defense companies perform product realization on a program basis. Key components are Configuration, Change and Contract Data Management:

  • Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense's complete configuration management capabilities have demonstrated a reduction in design and analysis cycle times by 60%, across complex multi-partner collaborative programs.
  • The solution enables efficient management of contract obligations through its Contract Data Requirements Lists /Subcontract Data Requirements Lists (CDRL/SDRL) feature that aids process improvement and overall program success.

Solution Enhancements

The most notable enhancements to Teamcenter A&D include the following:

  • A new Web browser interface built on Sun Microsystem's JavaTM 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) architecture, an industry standard for developing multi-tier enterprise applications. This interface will allow a much broader audience to easily access and use the A&D solution, without any client install.
  • A number of user-specific features have been incorporated across the product. For example, in the Document and Data Management area, users can now update any sheet within a drawing, while Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense automatically updates the revision of the cover sheet.

In this way, EDS' web-enabled Teamcenter Aerospace & Defense solution helps its customers in this industry to continue to lead the way in Product Lifecycle Management.
