Ricoh Expands Use of Solid Edge Software From EDS

Leading Printer and Copier Manufacturer Cites Ease-of-Use and Increased 3D Design Productivity; Expects Accelerated Design and Increased Product Quality

PLANO, Texas, July 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS (NYSE:EDS) announced today that Ricoh Company Ltd., one of the world's leading suppliers of office automation equipment, has expanded its use of Solid Edge(R) software for the computer-aided design (CAD) of printers and copiers at its manufacturing facilities in Japan and other global locations.

Ricoh selected Solid Edge based on its ease of use and increased 3D capabilities. With its recent expansion, Ricoh is now using over 100 Solid Edge licenses.

Solid Edge is being used for the design and manufacturing of Ricoh's latest line of market-leading printers and copiers, including state-of-the-art multifunctional products that provide print, fax and scanning functionality.
Ricoh engineers also have applauded new CAD innovations following their hands-on testing last month of Solid Edge Version 12. "We originally selected Solid Edge because of its usability," said Ricoh Research and Development Engineer Etsuro Kuretani. "Version 12 again validates that choice by providing an easy-to-use 3D wiring design capability for our printers and copiers. Currently, we must add wiring into the 2D drawing after the product is mostly designed. Now we can save significant time by including wiring and checking for interferences with other parts as a natural step throughout the 3D design process."
