Procter & Gamble and Altair Engineering Present Design Automation Paper At WORLDPAK 2002
TROY, Mich., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Troy, Michigan-based Altair Engineering, an international product development consulting and technology company and Procter & Gamble have co-authored a paper titled "Automating the Package Design Process" that will be presented at the WORLDPAK 2002 conference in East Lansing, Michigan. The paper will be jointly presented by Procter & Gamble Technology Leader David Henning and Altair Engineering Application Specialist Yeshwant Mummaneni. The Procter & Gamble Company, in partnership with Altair Engineering, has rejuvenated P&G's packaging analysis process through new strides in automation. Prior to this effort, P&G had an automated package analysis system, built on technology from the 1980s, that was quite rigid and required all geometry to be built internally to a single CAD system. Using commercially available software, a customized interface was developed to automate the analysis of bottle geometry. The customized interface guides the analyst through the process while automating the geometry healing, meshing, solution and reporting steps. The analyst is free to focus on the physical parameters of the design problem rather than on the non-value- added steps of setting up analytical solutions. The automated solution resulted in significant productivity gains while improving repeatability and reliability of the analysis. The paper will be presented during the afternoon session Tuesday, June 25. WORLDPAK, an international conference hosted this year by Michigan State University School of Packaging, is held in cooperation with the International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI) and brings together some of the world's leading packaging experts on packaging technology and industry trends. WORLDPAK 2002 is being held at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
