Autodesk Delivers Mechanical Productivity Extension for AutoCAD Mechanical
June 17, 2002 -- Autodesk, Inc. today released the Mechanical Productivity Extension, a new downloadable product enhancement for AutoCAD Mechanical and Autodesk Inventor Series customers on the Autodesk Subscription Program. The Mechanical Productivity Extension builds on existing AutoCAD Mechanical functionality to improve editing and visualization capabilities, making users more productive with a new collection of layer-management, block-editing, and dimension-checking tools. This extension is geared to reduce steps by combining common tasks, saving designers valuable time. The Mechanical Productivity Extension delivers improved efficiencies to customers who use layer groups, blocks, or external references to organize drawing data. Customers will also find enhancements to block editing and command line access for easier customization. Specifically, the Mechanical Productivity Extension includes: * Improved layer and layer group management to assign layer group color, offset to layer, and command line access, as well as the ability to copy layer groups. * Improved reference editing that displays nested external references and anonymous blocks. * Dimension value checking to find, highlight, and edit dimensions that contain overridden values. "The Mechanical Productivity Extension was developed specifically for our customers who need improved layer management and visualization," said Tom McCallion, senior product manager for the Autodesk Manufacturing Division. "This enhancement lets customers who work with complex layer management and block editing get even more value out of AutoCAD Mechanical, their 2D design and drafting system." Autodesk Subscription Program For an annual fee, the Autodesk Subscription Program is an alternative approach to most major product upgrades. The program provides licensed users with incremental, feature-enhancing Autodesk extensions that boost functionality for AutoCAD-based products and simplify the upgrade process. Subscribers acquire new product releases and download incremental extensions as they become available, without the individual purchase, implementation, and training typically required for full product upgrades. For new products, such as Autodesk Inventor software, the program offers a rapid cycle of releases with rich, new content. The program also includes downloadable e-Learning courses and optional direct online support.
