JSF Program Develops Next-Generation Product Design with Centric Software Deployment

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 7, 2002 - Centric Software, Inc., the leading provider of Collaborative Product Innovation (CPI) solutions for the globally distributed design chain, today announced it has received a substantial order from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company to accelerate development of next-generation avionics displays for the Joint Strike Fighter program.

One such capability is Functional Prototyping, which empowers manufacturers to digitally validate total product functionality, as opposed to simply form and fit, of the entire mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronics ("mechatronics") system. Already in use for over a year on the F-16 aircraft, the CPI solution selected by Lockheed Martin accelerates the creation of innovative avionics displays for the JSF, and also enables Lockheed Martin to maximize its engineering resources and therefore optimize product design. Having achieved measurable benefits, further deployment is being undertaken.

The JSF program, awarded to the Lockheed Martin team in October 2001, is the largest defense contract in history, with a value of approximately $25 billion. The program's total value over its lifetime is projected to be at least $200 billion. The JSF will develop and build 3,000 or more supersonic fighters for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, the U.K. Ministry of Defense and others, and will serve as the cornerstone of future defense capability for the United States, the United Kingdom, and their allied partners.
