PTC's Windchill Gives NASA Strong Product Lifecycle Management Benefits

NEEDHAM, Mass., June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC (NASDAQ:PMTC), the product development company(TM), today announced that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Johnson Space Center is realizing significant benefits with its production-level implementation of PTC(R) Windchill(R) Applications and services for product lifecycle management (PLM). Approaching the mid-point in implementing PTC's Windchill Applications, NASA has seen reductions in cycle times and improved access and control over product information.

NASA has invested over $1.7 million in Windchill software and services over the past five quarters. In addition, NASA uses PTC's award-winning design solution Pro/ENGINEER(R) to create product designs. Both implementations underscore PTC's strength in providing leading PLM solutions to the aerospace industry.

NASA Johnson Space Center is using the Windchill Applications to manage information for the Engineering directorate, which directly supports both the Shuttle and Station flight hardware life cycles and many associated processes. The product and process information at Johnson Space Center is shared with other centers, such as Marshall Space Flight Center, Kennedy Space Center, Stennis Space Center, and Langley Research Center. With almost half of NASA's originally planned seats in production, the Windchill implementation is already helping NASA provide access, visualization and configuration management to design studies in the exploration office, as well as allowing engineers and project managers to view real time costs associated with their hardware.

"NASA's implementation of Windchill Applications has given the United States' space program a boost in its ability to efficiently roll-up and analyze the massive amounts of data generated from its product development process," said Paul Cunningham, executive vice president, International Sales. "We are proud of our long-standing relationship with NASA, and look forward to finding new ways to aid the administration in innovative product creation, real-time design collaboration, and efficient process and data control throughout the lifecycles of its long-lived products."
