AUSTIN, Texas, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashlar-Vellum(R) Inc., the number one name in precision design software, announced today the release of Graphite(TM) 6.4, the newest version of its industry-leading professional drafting application. Leading the productivity enhancements in Version 6.4 is a completely rewritten Bill Of Materials (BOM) feature that makes it easier and faster than ever to attach manufacturing specifications to parts designed in the application.

Other valuable upgrades to Graphite 6.4 include improved translation of DXF (Data eXchange File) and DWG (Drawing) files; tools that speed the placement of frequently used text or other data; a significantly enhanced Help feature; and automatic conversion between Imperial and Metric measurements. Powerful New Productivity

Graphite 6.4's newly revamped Bill Of Materials feature makes full use of 32-bit Macintosh(R) and Windows(R) architecture, giving users an enhanced user interface consistent with the Graphite GUI. The fully integrated utility offers ballooning and annotation functions, greater control over table creation, and an overall improved ease of use that makes creating manufacturing BOMs faster and more convenient.

To provide more precise imports and exports between DXF and DWG formats, Graphite 6.4 offers a DXF 'accuracy' option that makes drawings instantly compatible with the OpenDWG(TM) standard. Also improving global transfer of files is an automatic Metric/Imperial conversion feature, enabling individuals to view drawings in the person's native system of measurement.

Graphite 6.4 introduces two new tools to speed entry of text and other information into CAD documents: AutoText, which automatically places blocks of frequently used text such as sets of instructions or production notes; and AutoForm, which uses "smart entry" technology to move the user quickly through tables, shop specs, and other routine listings. Help requests are upgraded in Graphite 6.4 as well via a new upgrade featuring a complete table of contents, index, and powerful new search capability.
