3D Design Software Boosts Creativity and Reduces Development Time, Says Australian Manufacturers
National Manufacturing Week, Sydney, Australia, May 28, 2002 - Autodesk, Inc (Nasdaq: ADSK) the world's leading design software and digital content company, today announced details of research into digital three-dimensional (3D) design software. Digital 3D design software encourages creativity and invention according to almost three quarters (71 per cent) of design engineers polled in the new research by Autodesk. Half of respondents stated that the use of fully digitized 3D models would reduce development time for new products, with almost one third (30 per cent) claiming that 3D designs will replace the need for physical models and eliminate the need to build multiple prototypes to test designs. The research was conducted throughout March and April 2002 by Autodesk and its valued partners at a series of six road shows held in Australia's capital cities. More than 200 design engineers, CAD/IT managers, manufacturing engineers, project managers and drafters from manufacturing and engineering companies attended and were polled on their views and use of design software in manufacturing. According to Andr Pravaz, Regional Director, Autodesk South Asia Pacific, "The challenge is to make design software more intuitive, enabling manufacturers to deliver better, more creative products in less time. It is here that digital 3D design comes to the fore, providing a single integrated medium to harness creative thought and integrate with downstream manufacturing applications." Respondents listed better design visualisation, followed by automated drawing production and reduced engineering cycle time respectively as the top three benefits of 3D design software. Almost half (48 per cent) already use a combination of 2D and 3D design software and one in six (15 per cent) use digital 3D software for all projects. The Autodesk Inventor(tm) Series will be demonstrated at the Autodesk Stand 1115 at National Manufacturing Week which is being held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 28 - 31. The demonstration will show the ease of designing in Autodesk Inventor(tm) 3D design software and how the software integrates with a milling machine to produce the appropriate tooling.
