5/23/2002 -- The latest update to the popular AutoCAD viewer is provided free-of-charge to all existing licensed users of Slick! v7.0. Updated files for the Slick! full version and LT versions my be downloaded online.

The latest build adds the following features not included in build 7.0.004.

- Actual lineweights are now printed correctly. Previously the display showed the lineweights correctly but the printed output did not match the display accurately.

- The readability of raster files has been improved

- Enhanced HPGL Support
HPGL viewing support has been greatly enhanced. Slick! now supports additional HPGL commands for compatibility with plot files from TurboCAD and other CAD applications.
Plot files that were previously viewed as mirrored in the X-axis are now automatically oriented. Also, Slick! now automatically zooms to the extents of the plot file.

- Raster Conversion
Previously, when you converted a drawing to a raster file, the entire drawing was converted. This presented a viewing problem for large drawings since the converted image is pixelated and it loses the detail normally present in vector drawings. With build .005 and .006, you can zoom into any portion of the drawing and convert only this portion. You can therefore create multiple raster images for selected areas of the drawing. This feature only applies if you are converting vector based files to raster files. Vector files include dwgs, dxfs, and plot files.
You can still convert from one raster image to another but Slick will convert the entire image.
A new Save dialog box now allows you to specify the name of the converted file. In previous versions, you were limited to the name of the source file and the new extension.

- Adobe Acrobat PDF Multi-Page Creation
The ability to create PDF files was initially introduced in build .004. However, the same problem with legibility on converted images was still present on large detailed drawings. With build .005, you can now convert selected portions of the drawing. In addition, each time you do a conversion, a new page will be added to the PDF you are saving to. This nice feature allows you to create a single PDF file with multiple pages and images from a single drawing or project.
TIP: Legibility is greatly enhanced if you save the PDF images in black and white. This will prevent color bleeding and color aliasing which detracts from the viewability of the converted image.
NOTE: Slick! will not be able to append to the existing PDF if it is in use by another user. For example, it the file is being viewed by the Adobe Acrobat Reader or is being modified by Acrobat Distiller.

- Adobe Acrobat Reader
Slick! still does not view PDF files directly. However, you can now double-click on a filename from within the Slick! files window with a pdf extension and the application that is registered to .pdf will be launched automatically. In a large number of installations, this will launch the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If your files having a pdf extension are not appearing on the file window, use the File - Filespec menu to add *.pdf to the file filter specifications.

- Solid Works Files
Slick! does not view SolidWorks native files directly. However, if you double-click on a filename containing SolidWorks extensions (*.sldasm, *.sldprt,*.slddrw, *.prt, *.asm, *.drw), the application that is registered to these extensions will be automatically launched by Slick! Again, if you wish to have these extensions viewable in the Slick! files window, add them to the file specifications.

- MicroStation DGN Files
Slick! does not view Microstations DGN files directly, However, if you double-click on a filename containing the .dgn, the application if any that is registered to these extension will be automatically launched by Slick! This possibly could be your viewer that handles Microstation DGN files.
Again, if you wish to have this extension viewable in the Slick! files window, add it to the file specifications.

- Invert Image Menu Function
This new function is available from the Display Menu. It will invert a monochrome bitmap image. For example, a white on black image will now appear black on white.
This function will only work on 1-bit monochrome images. It will not work for color images.

Slick! for Windows integrates file viewing, vector-to-raster and raster-to-raster conversion, markup / redlining, and database functionalities to track your AutoCAD drawings and files. It supports up to 200 different file formats.

CSUI has also released Slick! LT v7.0 build 7.0.006. This lite version of Slick! has all the features of the full version except that the database feature has been disabled.

Slick! LT v7.0 is priced at $68 per license.

Slick! Full Version is priced at $145 per license. Network versions are available for the full-version only.

Fully-functional evaluation copies are available for download online.
