Delcam's PowerMILL AutoCAM Wins "Best Software" Award
March 14 2002 -- Delcam is pleased to announce that its PowerMILL AutoCAM knowledge-based machining system was the outright winner in the "Best software" category, sponsored by The 600 Group, at the Metalworking Production International Machine Tool Industry Awards that were held during the recent MACH exhibition. PowerMILL AutoCAM uses a completely different approach to knowledge-based machining to that employed by other systems. Rather than using feature recognition as its basis, it analyses all the surfaces in the model to be machined and uses this information to select the most appropriate machining strategies, tooling and feeds and speeds, for the complete part. Delcam believes that this approach is much more suitable for the manufacture of tooling and prototypes, especially those containing complex curved surfaces. In contrast, the feature recognition approach, although successful in many repetitive production operations, is not so well suited for the one-off production of more challenging shapes. One judge described PowerMILL AutoCAM as "A highly automated system offering very fast and easy programming for tool-making and prototype applications - the 'Holy Grail' that CAM companies have been working towards for some time."
