PIRANESI 3 LAUNCH

13 March 2002 -- Informatix Software International Limited is proud to announce version 3 of its award-winning Piranesi� software. With Piranesi, designers can start with simple models and renderings, and use Piranesi's patented "3D painting" technology to quickly fill in missing detail using photorealistic and hand-drawn effects.

One of the most popular features of Piranesi is the ability to place cutouts (elements of scenery, such as people or vegetation) into a scene. Piranesi automatically adjusts for perspective and masking where one part of the scene passes behind another. Piranesi 3 further develops this technology via a new Cutout Manager, which gives users more control over each individual cutout, and allows collections of cutouts to be reused on different renderings of the model. 

Support for RPC� (Rich Photorealistic Content) cutouts, from ArchVision Inc, has also been added. RPC cutouts are supplied as a sequence of images, each taken from a different angle. You choose the angle you want - Piranesi will automatically select a different angle if the view is changed, or when casting shadows. 

Piranesi 3 has extended its applicability in two significant ways. Firstly, you can now import a 2D image into Piranesi as a plan or elevation. In other words, your starting point for Piranesi no longer has to involve any 3D modelling at all. Secondly, Piranesi can now be used to paint cubic panorama movie files, suitable for use with free players such as Apple QuickTime�. The ability to pan up, down, and around a hand-rendered scene is quite stunning! 

Many more enhancements have been added to Piranesi 3, ranging from improved wheel mouse support through to new filters like half-tone. Piranesi's sister product Vedute, which renders DXF or 3DS files into Piranesi format, has also had major improvements and remains free to Piranesi purchasers. Piranesi ships with 2000 free texture and cutout images.
