EDS Customers Attend PLM World User Conference in Record NumbersConference content and expanding Unigraphics, I-deas and Teamcenter technology offerings cited as attendance reaches 1,600
PLANO, Texas - EDS and PLM World Inc., an independent corporation supporting EDS PLM Solutions software users, today announced record attendance at the PLM World 2002 International Users Group Conference held last week in Orlando, Fla. This year's conference, sponsored by the PLM World User Group, drew 1,600 attendees involved with product lifecycle management (PLM) software, such as Unigraphics, I-deals and Teamcenter from the former Unigraphics Solutions Inc. and Structural Dynamics Research Corporation (SDRC). Conference numbers topped the combined attendance during these two companies' respective conferences in 2001. EDS and its PLM Solutions clients discussed the direction of product lifecycle management software, and innovative and practical methods for companies to use PLM Solutions suite of products. "I believe much of the conference growth was based on interest in the evolving technology directions from EDS and the expanded quality of more than 250 technical and business sessions," said Kelley Kimball, chairman of PLM World Inc.'s board of directors. "It was exciting to see interaction that took place last week within a new community of engineering professionals. There were compelling questions, answers, suggestions, debate, and brainstorming sessions at levels we have never seen before. User input to product functionality and direction is a very important aspect of our conferences as well as our organization. As our ability to leverage these contributions increases through a strong working relationship with EDS PLM Solutions, I fully expect the attendance growth rate to continue." "We experienced a high level of positive energy from this new mix of highly-skilled engineers in both user communities. This level of expertise will help propel innovation into our technologies at faster rates," said Chuck Grindstaff, president, PLM Products, EDS PLM Solutions. "The power, knowledge and synergy of this engaged user group is not only impressive, but is unique in our industry." EDS PLM Solutions executives outlined the directions for its Teamcenter, Unigraphics and I-deals products. "This conference was an invaluable resource that helps me understand techniques in the software," said Randy Hecksel, an I-deals user with Johnson Controls in Holland, Mich. "The amount of information that is shared during these conferences is overwhelming. I was intrigued and later impressed as to how the two user groups would come together and also what EDS was thinking for the future of these two CAD systems." "The breadth of new technologies and sessions at this year's conference was impressive," said Tord Dennis, research engineer from the Georgia Institute of Technology. "We were able to hear and understand not only the Unigraphics and I-deals product directions, but also learn more about Teamcenter and its data management and collaboration capabilities." Dennis presented a session at the conference on a virtual collaboration project using EDS software to bring together students from Georgia Tech and Kettering University in Michigan on joint design projects.
