DENVER, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Information Management Research, Inc. (IMR), developer of the award-winning Alchemy(R) family of unstructured data management software solutions, today announced the release of Alchemy version 7.3 for worldwide distribution. Alchemy gives companies the ability to electronically store, index, archive, search, retrieve, and share unstructured data including scanned images, paper-based documents, forms, CAD/engineering drawings, PDFs, personal computer files such as Word and Excel, and computer generated reports. Alchemy version 7.3 offers a new optional security model based on the Microsoft Active Directory structure, enhanced overlay capabilities, and a new concurrent licensing scheme.

Alchemy Premium version 7.3 is tightly integrated with the Microsoft Active Directory(1) security structures, which significantly increases the level of document protection for all archived documents maintained in the Alchemy system while at the same time reduces the amount of administrative overhead generally associated with archiving solutions.

"Today's business environment demands tight control over the unstructured information not contained in transactional databases. Paper documents, faxes and emails used to communicate business transactions frequently aren't backed up and they required a lot of handling throughout their life cycle. This new version of Alchemy can significantly reduce the administrative burdens of storing, and more importantly, finding critical information easily and quickly," said Jean-Pierre Blanger of BVA MYFRA in Montrouge, France.

Already a low-maintenance solution, Alchemy's new integration with Microsoft's Active Directory provides two major benefits. First, the level of document security has been enhanced for large enterprises that have implemented Microsoft's Active Directory technology. With Alchemy version 7. 3 administrators can 'copy' or 'mirror' the security architecture in the Active Directory to the Alchemy repositories. Second, administering user access rights to Alchemy databases is even easier. Now, when users logon to the network, a single sign-on capability automatically grants them the proper access rights to specific databases and documents in the Alchemy system. Administrators can make "on-the-fly" changes to the Active Directory and these changes are immediately applied to the Alchemy security structures; this makes Alchemy a dynamic system as staffing, network configurations and archived data requirements change.

The Alchemy version 7.3 overlay enhancements are useful in customer service and bill presentment applications, for example. Since users can easily email a text file and an overlay together as one tiff file, customer response time is reduced, thereby increasing customer satisfaction. When used as a bill presentment solution, Alchemy eliminates the need to process, print and mail statements to customers. Instead, statements are simply emailed as a single tiff file -- saving time, saving money, and improving customer service. Alchemy makes data immediately useful.

Alchemy version 7.3 also includes a new product licensing design that allows for concurrent licensing of desktop client software and product extensions, like Alchemy Scan and DataGrabber, for scanning and Computer Output to Laser Disc (COLD) respectively. With concurrent licensing, customers pay only for the number of connections they need at one time to the Alchemy Server, rather than paying for a license for each employee who may periodically need to access the Alchemy Document Archiving solution.

"IMR continues to increase the value that Alchemy provides to customers. Version 7.3 offers significant new features in addition to a new licensing structure, leading to an even faster return on investment for our customers," stated Steven Grandchamp, IMR President and CEO. "In addition, Alchemy is still an easy to implement and easy to use unstructured data management solution."

Alchemy Version 7.3 is available for immediate delivery. Current IMR customers on support contracts may request a free upgrade by sending an email to [email protected] or by contacting their IMR Reseller or IMR Sales Representative.

In addition to the shipment of this latest version, IMR is celebrating 10 years of success with Alchemy, including over 10,000 installations in 42 countries.
