CADCAM-E Now Supports UG V18 to IGES and Mechanical Desktop Translations

(Farmington Hills, Michigan  May 1, 2002) CADCAM-E, the Internet-based CAD/CAM data conversion service, has introduced new versions of its Unigraphics to Mechanical Desktop and IGES conversion services that support Unigraphics Version 18. CIMMDT-UG now works within Mechanical Desktop Versions 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 and can read uncompressed Unigraphics files and assemblies from Versions 14 through 18. The new version of IGES/UG also supports Unigraphics part and assembly files up to Version 18 and writes IGES files that are compatible with all CAD systems that support IGES. The ability to read Unigraphics data without owning a Unigraphics license can provide dramatic costs savings to contract manufacturers and other companies that have customers or business partners that use Unigraphics.

CADCAM-E's web site delivers interoperability solutions to the user's desktop over the web. The user simply registers for the service and downloads the translation software and installs it on their desktop. The security of design data is assured, as data never leaves user's desktop. Running the conversion application on the desktop also provides the fastest conversion speed. This approach fits the business model of contract design and manufacturing operations and many other firms perfectly since the cost of the translation can be charged to the customer's project. Running the conversion application on the desktop also provides the fastest conversion speed.

The CIMMDT-UG solution is completely integrated within the Mechanical Desktop environment and provides a one-button translation capability from Unigraphics to Mechanical Desktop. All 3D geometry entities are converted to equivalent Mechanical Desktop entities, including solids and assemblies. IGES/UG is a stand-alone, host-independent, direct translator that converts native uncompressed Unigraphics part and assembly files into IGES 5.2 compatible files.

In addition to Unigraphics to Mechanical Desktop and IGES translations, CADCAM-E also offers conversion solutions between CATIA, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks and Mastercam systems and PARASOLID, ACIS, and STEP formats.

CADCAM-E also offers a wide range of services targeted at engineering and manufacturing organizations as well as independent software vendors. The company's engineers can economically perform translations, particularly those involving feature-based solids, that can't be cost-effectively automated. They can also provide legacy data conversion, 3D design and drafting, computer-aided engineering, manufacturability studies, data conversion and distribution to the supply chain and the development of web-based engineering applications. The company also offers licensable components for reading and writing CAD files independent of the CAD systems that created them. These components can be embedded in software packages to provide seamless interoperability with most any CAD system. The company also provides custom programming to customer specifications.
