EDS Software Reduces Design Time for Student Robotics Teams

Solid Edge and Unigraphics Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Systems Used by Delphi-Sponsored Teams in FIRST Competition

PLANO, Texas - EDS announced today that its Solid Edge and Unigraphics CAD software helped students design robots for three Delphi Corporation-sponsored high school teams competing in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 that pairs businesses and universities with schools to inspire students to pursue professions in engineering, science and technology.

The FIRST Robotics Competition immerses high school students in the exciting world of engineering by challenging them to design and build robots that must complete specified tasks while partnered with other teams' robots. The Championship takes place April 24-27 at Disney's Epcot Center in Orlando, Fla. Delphi-sponsored teams have won the national competition in 1999 and 2000.

Solid Edge is suited perfectly for student teams because it is extremely easy to learn and use. That sharply reduces design time and allows more focus on the numerous other activities required to prepare for this exciting competition.

The Delphi teams are:

Delphi ELITE, Warren (Ohio) G. Harding High School, sponsored by Delphi Packard Electric Systems

The Knight Riders, Flint (Mich.) Southwestern Academy, sponsored by Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems

The TechnoKats, Kokomo (Ind.) High School, sponsored by Delphi Delco Electronic Systems
