advertisement

SYDNEY, April, 2002 - Autodesk, the world's leading design software and digital content company, has announced the inaugural iDesign Awards, a global design competition that will honour excellence and innovation in digital design.

As a worldwide design software company, Autodesk helps over 4,000,000 design professionals in over 160 countries model, make, manage, and market their designs. Autodesk is calling for entries from professionals and students who have solved a design challenge and, in the process, achieved a perfect balance of form and function.

36 regional winners will be awarded their choice of Autodesk software, a digital camera, and a trip to Autodesk University in Las Vegas. 12 of those regional winners will be selected as the worldwide iDesign Award winners and will receive official iDesign Awards trophies.

Submissions will be evaluated on four criteria:

Innovation : Designs or moving images that illustrate originality and inspiration and challenge the status quo. These designs should demonstrate willingness to take a risk and break new ground.

Design Excellence: High-quality designs or moving images that demonstrate a perfect balance of form and function.

Integration of Multiple Autodesk Products: The capability of integrating two or more Autodesk software products and/or complementary Autodesk-partner application software in one project.

Technical Expertise: Designs or moving images that demonstrate specialised knowledge and skill in the use of Autodesk software - specifically making use of appropriate features and applying advanced features.

Entries can be submitted in one or more of the following categories:

Building Design: including architecture; interior design; building systems engineering; building civil engineering; land, city, and environmental planning; and construction and design and build.

Manufacturing: including machinery design, tool and die design, product design, manufacturing analysis, and manufacturing.

Geographic Information Systems: including mapping; civil engineering; outside plant and infrastructure design and management; surveying; land, city, and environmental planning; electrical network design; and geographic information systems.

Digital Media: including visual effects, 3D broadcast graphics, animation, and game development .

Future of Design Category: In addition to the four industry categories above, eligible design students and professionals may enter the Future of Design Category in each of the four industries mentioned above (i.e., Building Design, Manufacturing, GIS, and Digital Media).
