Matrox Introduces New Third-generation MMS Products: Matrox G450 X2 MMS and Matrox G450 X4 MMSPowerful half-length, full-height PCI cards, including the world's smallest four-chip graphics accelerator
Montreal, Canada, March 20, 2002-Matrox Graphics Inc. today announced the new Matrox G450 X2 Multi-Monitor Series (MMS), and the Matrox G450 X4 MMS graphics cards, the newest additions to the MMS line of products to provide outstanding multi-monitor support and unparalleled image quality to the financial and corporate markets. As the world's smallest quad output card, the forward-looking Matrox G450 X4 MMS, along with the Matrox G450 X2 MMS, are half-length, full-height PCI cards that meet the size requirements of the next generation of smaller desktop systems, while still fitting into today's standard desktops. Both the Matrox G450 X2 MMS dual configuration and the Matrox G450 X4 MMS quad drive each display with the full power of its own dedicated graphics chip and memory-unlike other cards, which rely on two chips for four outputs. Using only tried and tested technology, the latest MMS cards are based on the Matrox G450 chip, providing a solid base for the most stable and reliable dual and quad cards available. With over five million units sold, the Matrox G450 has a proven track record of delivering the ultimate in image quality and 2D acceleration required by today's business professionals. "MMS products are internationally acclaimed for their reliability and stability," says Mitch Furman, Senior Product Manager, Display Technologies, Matrox Graphics Inc. "One of the key factors in achieving rock-solid stability and reliability in our products lies in the fact that Matrox only introduces new MMS graphics technologies and drivers after they have been proven on earlier designs." The Matrox G450 X2 MMS and the Matrox G450 X4 MMS support analog outputs at resolutions of up to 2048 x 1536 on each display, or digital outputs at a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 per display. With a total of 64MB of RAM, both the dual and quad configurations have a maximum DAC speed of 360 MHz, and boast a Multi TV-Out feature, making them capable of outputting to two or four TVs respectively. Easy to use, these graphics accelerators also support a customizable unattended installation, which allows users to create a setup executable file, presetting any Matrox PowerDesk features for a standardized setup across all workstations. Users can also install four of the G450 X4 MMS cards in their system to power up to 16 digital flat panel displays under Microsoft Windows NT, and up to 10 displays in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. With the continuation of Matrox's unified driver strategy, users will still be able to rely on a single driver for all Matrox cards. The Matrox G450 X2 MMS and the Matrox G450 X4 MMS also come with the same break-out cables as the current G200 MMS and Millennium G550 Dual DVI cards, so consumers can switch from analog to digital outputs with ease. Availability Samples of the new Matrox G450 X2 MMS and the Matrox G450 X4 MMS graphics cards will be available in Q2 '02. As with all MMS cards, the Matrox G450 X2 MMS and the G450 X4 MMS cards will enjoy a long life cycle, unlike many competing solutions, which are short-lived. The current G200 MMS card will coexist with the G450 X2 and X4 MMS cards, allowing for a long transition period for all current MMS customers.
