GeoMedia Software Grant from Intergraph Helps Prepare Future GIS Professionals at Fort Hays State University, Kansas

GeoMedia technology elemental for students learning GIS principles and methodology

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 20, 2002 - Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions today announced a software grant to Fort Hays State University (FHSU) in Kansas for integrating GeoMedia(r) technology into the university's introductory, intermediate, and advanced geographic information systems (GIS) coursework. The software grant includes 17 licenses of GeoMedia Professional with a value of $127,000 (U.S.).

Students at FHSU will apply GeoMedia technology in learning GIS principles and methodology, spatial analysis techniques, GIS data construction, and a variety of other application capabilities. The software grant also lays a foundation that goes beyond the university learning environment. With their completed coursework, students will be prepared to use their training in the workplace and offer informed technology recommendations to employers.

"We are thrilled to expand our curriculum and offer students the opportunity to broaden their GIS software knowledge and expertise," explained Dr. Richard Lisichenko, assistant professor of geosciences at FHSU. "The GeoMedia software grant provides valuable tools for undertaking student GIS research projects and supporting university and community GIS training needs. Moreover, the classroom training will help give students solid skills in GIS techniques and a viable advantage in their future job search. Located at the eastern margin of the High Plains in Hays, Kansas, FHSU's Department of Geosciences prepares geography and geology majors for industry, teaching, and graduate school.
