MEMGen Poised to Enter AsiaPac MarketReceives EFAB(tm) technology patent in Japan for the production of three-dimensional microdevices
Burbank, CA - March 5, 2002 - MEMGen Corporation has received broad patent coverage in Japan for its EFAB technology, enabling the company to expand its business into the AsiaPac marketplace. Developed to transform the manufacturing of micromachines, EFAB allows complex microsystems to be produced from a single, automated system. The technology makes it possible to fabricate millimeter-scale devices with microscopic features and complex, three-dimensional geometries. It also enables microtechnology to be accessible to any engineer familiar with 3-D CAD-based design. "International reach is a key element of our growth plan, as our strategic partners will use EFAB to enable products that address global markets. While most U.S. microtechnology companies are focused on the domestic market, we also see tremendous opportunities for EFAB overseas," said Adam Cohen, MEMGen founder and CEO. "Worldwide intellectual property protection will secure the competitive advantages our strategic partners enjoy with our unique and revolutionary micro-manufacturing technology." As a fundamentally new manufacturing technology, EFAB is suitable for a wide range of product applications. Japanese Patent No. 3269827 offers full protection for the EFAB process and provides MEMGen with exclusive rights to the technology in Japan. About MEMGen Headquartered in Burbank, California, MEMGen Corporation has developed a new technology that will radically change the way micromachines are made, as well as dramatically accelerate growth in MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical Systems)-based products. MEMGen's proprietary EFAB(tm) (Electrochemical Fabrication) technology was originally invented and patented at the University of Southern California by the company's founder and CEO, Adam Cohen. With this technology, MEMGen is the first to enable prototyping and mass production of truly three-dimensional micromachines, quickly and without a cleanroom.
