CHEST Users Get Closer to the Real World With Cities Revealed
5 March 2002 - The GeoInformation Group, publishers of Cities Revealed aerial photography, has enhanced its high-resolution dataset agreement under the CHEST (Combined Higher Education Software Team) programme. The agreement now offers academic departments an even more flexible approach to acquiring digital, off-the-shelf aerial photographic imagery to include a wider variety of resolutions from the Cities Revealed's ever-expanding data archive. The datasets, which can be purchased by educational institutions for non-commercial use under the CHEST Agreement programme, offer some of the highest resolution imagery available on the market and are available at 12.5 cm, 15 cm and 50 cm resolutions. The CHEST deal offers users a one-off payment with no time restriction on data usage, full technical support and the freedom to acquire datasets that cover user requested areas. In addition, datasets are bundled entirely free with the latest version of the Cities Revealed data management software, CR Image Manager v3. This newly released data management tool provides a comprehensive suite of tools enabling users to easily manipulate the aerial photography. In addition to the standard pan and zoom facilities, this latest version incorporates sophisticated line and area measurement facilities, an option to either create or use an existing gazetteer, the capability to overlay vector data, and to merge temporal datasets for comparing and contrasting purposes. Judy Adams, Senior Contracts Officer for CHEST, comments "The GeoInformation Group has been supplying high resolution aerial photography to the UK Higher Education community through CHEST for over 4 years. In that time, over 25 institutions have taken advantage of the agreement that offers both significant discounts and departmental licensing terms to suit the academic sector. The GeoInformation Group clearly understand the needs of the academic sector and works well with CHEST to serve the community". Pricing is available on request with an option to purchase a second dataset from as little as 250.
