Revolutionary New Procedural Plant Simulator Combines Hybrid Technology and Botany For 3DS MAX
Paris, March 2002 -- A real plant simulation innovation has just occurred. For the first time ever we see a fully 3ds max integrated procedural plant simulation plug-in , natFX from Bionatics, combine hybrid technology and botany. Ideally suited for the game development and CG markets, natFX enables users to quickly generate photo-realistic plants from a diverse database of virtual seeds with a minimum of polygons. Max users can now simulate a multitude of plants and trees at once, age them, change their seasonal states, the level of detail and add shadows. Quick rendering, minimum polygons, photo-realism, practical, plus more. With natFX for 3ds max, plant simulation has never been easier. 2D/3D Hybrid Technology What makes natFX for 3ds max unique is its integrated hybrid technology allowing you to mix and match any number of 2D objects (billboards) with 3D. For instance, if only the front of the tree is seen, there is no point in generating a tree entirely in 3D. Generate a single billboard for the back and have the rest in the 3D. Send a Maple into 3ds max with the trunk in 3D and its crown made up of 100 unique billboards. Convert individual or multiple branches into 3D or billboards and have the billboards bend to follow the shape of the branch or leaf. Have a unique texture placed onto each billboard or save on texture memory and have one instanced for all. Plus anything you can do with a 3ds max primitive you can do with a natFX plant. Age and Seasons Place your tree in winter and have it flower in spring, flourish with green leaves in summer and Indian orange and yellows in autumn. Start off with a sapling, age it incrementally or all at once. Thanks to Bionatics' plant growth engine and AMAP technology that actually takes an expression of the plant's genetic code, you're sure to have a botanically correct and unique plant every time. Commercialization Bionatics will launch natFX with a 10-plant library. To enrich the library, the user can simply purchase choice plants on-line from Bionatics' web site. As of today, the site has over 500 different plants and trees from around the world. Advised Minimum Configuration
