Caligari Announces dePak Providing 31 Tools for Professional Design and Engineering

Mountain View, CA - March 4, 2002 - Caligari Corporation (www.caligari.com), a pioneer provider of 3D multimedia authoring technologies, today announced the availability of dePak, a powerful collection of toolkits, suites, individual plug-ins, libraries, and standalone programs - 31 tools in all - for trueSpace design and engineering professionals.

trueSpace is an award-winning 3D modeling and animation program offering polygon and NURBS-based modeling tools, physically realistic and fast-rendering, and advanced surfacing features. It supports industry standard IGES, SAT and STL formats, and is compatible with traditional CAD/CAM applications.

New and veteran trueSpace5 users alike will value dePak's broad range of tools. trueMirror for integrated real-time reflection modeling, allows users to edit half of a model and see the changes instantly reflected in the other half. The long-awaited sequel to the original real-time landscape creation tool, trueScape 2, is also in dePak, providing additional drawing tools, filters, fractal functions and added control over polygon density, for more power than ever before to create realistic mountains, valleys, lakes, or other landscapes.

The CK Modeling Suite includes 11 powerful plug-ins, including ClothMotion for realistic cloth simulation and animation. Users have the ability to control features such as stiffness and flexibility, cloth weight, gravity, and wind. Collision detection with collision models, self collision, and cloth vertices fixation are invaluable when creating flags, curtains, sheets, clothing, and other objects made of cloth. A companion tool, Magnetic Vertex, magnetically attracts vertices of one object to another, so users can easily fit cloth to a character's body. Additional tools in the CK Modeling Suite include:

• Edge2Path converts edges to paths for useful animation or macro sweep
• Fusion for fusing polygons together
• ObjRow helps for easy arrangement of plural objects
• PointClone arranges objects so the vertex direction and the arranged direction match
• ShapeClone replaces complicated objects with simple ones until render time
• SkinModifier deforms objects with bone weights, and mixes vertex and bone animation
• taiSho copies vertex position from one vertex to another
• trueConstraints applies motion constraints far beyond the axis
• trueDisplacement provides surface deformation control with gray scale images

MeshSize 2 calculates the surface area and volume of any object and allows dePak users to scale the object to any given surface area or volume. Engineers and designers requiring exact dimensions of mesh can now use the edge and face selection tools in trueSpace to work out cross-sectional areas and the surface area and volume of mesh sub-sections. MetaObjects expands the default set of primitive objects available in trueSpace to include Platonic solids, truncated Archimedean solids and an extended set of Geodesic spheres. Blend-O-Matic allows users to blend separate polygonal surfaces with real time feedback, so they can model in parts, and then integrate the parts into a single smooth mesh. Eleblend can seamlessly blend textures by the elevation of grayscale. The Monster Toolkit has seven plug-ins for easy polygon editing - drawing edges around objects with a single stroke; slicing objects in two; easily snapping vertex-to-vertex; creating new edges and faces; and switching back and forth between point edit and surface subdivision with a single click.

Three new path enhancement tools, PathAray, ConstantPath, and textPath, allow users to array objects along paths, evenly space the keyframe divisions, and set text to flow along any chosen path.
vcTek2 provides a kit construction metaphor to design, construct and animate of complex machines and vehicles. vcBlu is a reverse engineering tool that makes it easy to convert a finished 3D model into a vcTek blueprint and kit. Sherman Tank is a highly detailed kit with nearly 169,000 faces ready to be constructed and animated in vcTek2 or used in scenes as a prop. And the BKP Car Collection includes seven detailed cars in cob, x and 3ds formats, and all the cars also come in vcTek format, so users can drive them around trueSpace scenes. This model library provides excellent base models from which to use the other dePak tools for additional detail and customization.

Valued at more than $700 and regularly priced at $199, dePak is available now for a limited-time introductory price of $99 to trueSpace5 users. New trueSpace users can now purchase trueSpace version 5.2 for $595 with 60 days of technical support.
