Stansted Selects Cities Revealed to Promote its Image as Major Airport
28 February 2002 - Stansted Airport has recently purchased Cities Revealed aerial photography, published by The GeoInformation Group, as a visual impact tool to help sell the airport as a major airport destination to potential airline operators. The aerial photography will help to create the image that Stansted is a major player in the London airport market. Stansted Airport invested in 12.5 cm resolution data for an area totalling 88 square kilometres. This high-resolution aerial imagery captures the entire property of the airport along with local road and rail links, terminal building and associated satellites. The high level of photographic detail was considered an important requisite by the airport to ensure optimum visual exposure of their land. Paul Haynes, Business Development Executive at Stansted Airport, comments "Aerial photography plays an integral part as a visual aid within our corporate presentations. It provides an ideal snapshot of the airport and its facilities especially for those international prospects who have never previously visited Stansted." From a planning perspective, the airport regularly liaises with the Local Authorities prior to new development. The photography is also providing the airport with an invaluable visual overview of the airport land for new building work, such as the new four star hotel currently being built. "A number of key factors contributed to our decision to purchase Cities Revealed data. These included the exceptional detail revealed within the photography, the currency of the data and the overall excellent level of customer service we received throughout the purchasing process", says Paul Haynes. Prestwick Airport has also acquired Cities Revealed imagery for similar applications. They are already receiving tremendous benefits from their data investment. The photography has helped them to save time and money in the identification of many problems such as potential poor drainage areas, detecting damaged hard standing areas, recording accurate measurements of aprons, runways and taxiways, improving car parking operations, and future runway development. The GeoInformation Group's orthorectified aerial photography is georeferenced to the Ordnance Survey National Grid and correctly positioned to Land-Line specifications, therefore customers can be assured that it fits their existing applications. The data is delivered in the standard Cities Revealed format complete with its recently enhanced free image management software, CRImage Manager v3.0.
