PLANO, 11 February 2002-- EDS today announced a three-year agreement by its PLM Solutions line of business with General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM), expanding an existing GM relationship for software and services. With the world's largest production common global system, GM reinforces its commitment for product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions to provide its development teams with simultaneous access to digital product information on their vehicle programs to facilitate faster time to market, better quality products and lower costs.

The agreement was finalized during the third quarter of 2001 and was included in EDS' new contract totals for that quarter.

"Effective vehicle development collaboration is increasingly critical to our overall business," said Kirk Gutmann, information officer, Develop Product Information Systems and Services, General Motors Corporation. "To successfully achieve aggressive goals for the development of vehicles, we need to be able to conduct on-going global engineering activities regardless of time or place. Our extensive collaborative engineering network, facilitated by the technology solutions provided by EDS, enables us to access digital information wherever and whenever we need. This allows us to keep our vehicle programs moving forward, and also provides new tools that facilitate innovation. We can readily deal with complex issues such as maintaining consistent processes, enabling system integration, eliminating redundancy, and capturing best practices - all supporting a business model of faster time to market with better quality and lower costs."

"There are compelling business benefits associated with our continued efforts to enhance our real time collaboration between our product development and manufacturing teams with standardized tools and processes," said Dr. Heinz Lehnhoff, GME Engineering IT officer. "Although our position in the world with common systems and integration to our joint ventures and suppliers is already second to none, state-of the art-collaboration and visualization tools play a key role for us. Our commitment with EDS is strategic for us because we share a common vision for the gains that remain within our immediate reach for the automotive industry."

Under the terms of this renewal contract, GM will continue to implement software offerings from EDS's PLM Solutions, including:

Unigraphics - the premier CAD/CAM/CAE software system for the design, analysis and manufacturing of products. Unigraphics has been adopted as GM's corporate standard with 11,350 copies of the product implemented in GM's extended engineering environment. Unigraphics is built on EDS's geometry kernel, Parasolid, the industry standard for precise 3D geometry interoperability of multi-CAD environments.

I-man - an Internet-centric software application for the management of product content. Now with over 30,000 copies of I-man implemented, GM users have enterprise-wide access to product intellectual capital.

ProductVision - an advanced collaboration and visualization application that is fully integrated with both Unigraphics and i-Man that delivers visual engineering information to both technical and non-technical users enabling the realization of a virtual product development vision.

ProductVision is built on EDS's E-vis visualization technology, the industry standard for viewing lightweight 3D geometry from multiple-CAD systems.

"We are committed to providing the world's premier manufacturing companies like General Motors with software and services that dramatically increase their product lifecycle management productivity," said Tony Affuso, president, PLM Solutions, EDS. "By continuing to offer comprehensive enterprise software solutions that are open, scalable and collaborative, we enable our customers to achieve their key business imperatives quicker, creating overall business value for them and their customers. We are very pleased with our expanded relationship with General Motors and the innovation that GM has built into its vehicle development cycle."
